PRESS RELEASE

2009/2010 University of Malawi admissions

The University of Malawi is pleased to announce the results of the 2009 University Entrance Examinations and names of candidates who have been selected to pursue various programmes in the University of Malawi for the 2009 to 2010 academic year.

A total of 6203 candidates wrote this year's University Entrance Examinations (UEE) and of these 4353 were males and 1850 were females representing 70% and 30% respectively. Out of the above 5355 candidates passed (i.e. reached a combined aggregate of UEE and MSCE pass mark of 50% and above), representing 86% pass rate. Of the candidates that passed 3848 were males and 1507 were females. From the candidates that passed, 1152 candidates have been selected to continue their studies at the University of Malawi. This number includes 126 candidates selected to premedical programmes of the College of Medicine and it represents 27% of the potential candidates. Of those selected, 690 are males and 462 are females. This year's selection was done using the equitable system of selecting candidates to public institutions of higher learning. Under this policy, top ten candidates from each district were offered places and the rest were further selected based on merit and the population size of their district.

All successful candidates are advised that the date for reporting to their respective Colleges shall be announced in due course by each constituent college of the University of Malawi.

The list of successful candidates is available on all office notice boards of our constituent colleges as well as on the University of Malawi website : www.unima.mw.

The University of Malawi wishes to inform candidates who have passed this year's UEE but have not been selected that they can apply for the soon to be advertised non-residential programmes.
